What is a Volvo Truck Key?

Volvo's Car Key allows drivers to set speed limits prior to lending their cars to family or friends.
Ignition Key
The ignition key is the mechanical part that turns the car on. It also unlocks the trunk and doors. Certain keys come with additional functions like a panic button, trunk release, liftgate release, or tailgate release.
The blade of the key can cause problems. A Volvo-registered locksmith can make you a new key. They are usually able to cut keys without a car.
Certain Volvo keys come with special features like keys that are red or restricted. The way in which the car was delivered to the factory determines what features are available. A dealer can order a service that disables the key function that is restricted. VIDA can be used by the dealer to do this. You can do this yourself, if you own all the necessary software and tools.
Key fobs with a red or orange shell. They can be exchanged between vehicles, but the keys that are special will require their shells removed before they can be used in another vehicle. Dealers or you can change the keys. Volvo key fobs don't require "virginizing".
TheKeyLab allows you to open the doors and start the car. It can also control the locks and activate or deactivate certain functions, such as panorama roofs or power windows. The key comes with a restricted function that disables the motion sensing*. You can purchase keys with this feature from the dealer (you require proof of ownership) or a Volvo-certified locksmith. A key with this function is marked orange or red. The key shell release slider is the same as the color therefore swapping a brand new key blade for an existing one won't affect the function.
Follow the simple steps of VIDA to program (add) a new Remote. It doesn't need to be a "virgin key". Sit in driver's chair with door closed. Press the lock button on the new remote. The light on the side will blink, indicating the key can be programmed.
Keyless Entry Key
A long-press on the keyless button closes all windows as well as the panoramic roof*. The key contains the button cell battery (warning: button cells are small and could cause injury in the event of swallowing). The dealer can cut you a new keyless entry key, or an authorized locksmith with Volvo can also. They can also program your Volvo keys. Key shells can be swapped on the key fob, and it will function interchangeably.
Key Fob
A key fob is a part of the VOLVO key and contains the keyless entry as well as lock and unlock functions. It also includes a panic key that will activate the vehicle alarm. The key fob also has the ability to close your windows as well as the panoramic roof*. The key fob comes in plastic with silver buttons that match the color of your car. You can swap this shell between keys, but the function will not change.
A dealer can create an entirely new blade for your key fob. A locksmith that is registered with Volvo is also able to do this, but they may require proof of ownership to do so. You can also use blank keys to copy the emergency blade. However, you'll need to program the key through VIDA in order to use it in your vehicle.
